Vicky lives in Portsmouth with her husband and two children. When she’s not up to her elbows in nappies, play doh and paint, she spends her days copywriting, crafting and blogging.
Any spare time Vicky gets is spent crocheting, reading and hunting out treasures in charity shops – her two great loves are patterned knitwear and retro china, and she has a complete inability to pass up a bargain. Fascinated by the 1940s, Vicky collects old photographs, maps and vintage crochet patterns, and loves nothing more than a good nose around an old house or museum.
A few questions about nice things...
Who do you most admire?
Without a doubt, my mum. She is kind, thoughtful, has the patience of a saint, and she is without a doubt the most selfless person I know. She has encouraged me, nurtured me, laughed with me and cried with me. She has been my companion and best friend, and taught me every lesson in life worth knowing. She is my role model, and if I’m half the mother to my children that she’s been to me, I will have done a good job.
What are your favourite possessions?
How many can I have? Apart from photographs and family mementos, I think I’d have to put my books at the top of the list, closely followed by my crafting equipment. Oh, and my laptop – it’s nothing fancy, but I couldn’t do my job without it!
Tell us about your perfect day or weekend...
My perfect day would involve lots of warm sunshine, a drive out into the country, a picnic lunch followed by a doze on a blanket, the time to take some photographs, a long walk, a charity shop or two, and then home for dinner. The evening would be spent watching a film, reading a good book, and of course, crocheting. No time restraints or schedules, just enjoying each other’s company – bliss!
What makes you happiest?
My children, my family, my friends, a good book, a cracking cup of tea, a great project on my crochet hook and a crisp new magazine to read. In that order!
What would you like to do in the future?
I’d like to write more articles for magazines, and develop my range of crochet accessories – I’m aiming to get enough together to open an Etsy shop, but that’s quite a long way off! Long term, I’d love to have a house in the country, a cat, a vegetable patch and a range cooker. If I end up with a range cooker, I’ll be a very happy woman!
