A wander through heath and woodland at beautiful Wilverley Inclosure in the New Forest

One of my favourite things to do is go for a long, refreshing walk at Wilverley Inclosure with my dog Lily. It’s one of the loveliest spots in the New Forest in my opinion. To get there we travel through Bashley village and turn off by the dog-friendly Rising Sun pub which is a great place to go for lunch or a drink. Wilverley Plain is the best car park to park in. It’s a bit further round from Wilverley Inclosure but really worth it. Here you have the best of both walks as you can either enter the forest or walk on the heath. The heath is a flatter ground to walk on and is the best spot to see the New Forest horses and cows. It’s lovely to see the horses running about and rolling around on the grass.

I particularly love this spot as there are so many paths to follow so you never get bored. You can even go off track and walk amongst the towering trees and kick the fallen leaves. The changing colours make it a truly magical and inspiring place and it looks different every time I go. There’s lots of wildlife to see – birds, butterflies, insects and squirrels – which of course Lily loves to chase. It’s a great place to collect your thoughts and just stop and listen to the birds singing.
