Fresh pizzas and fantastic kids’ suppers in the pretty beer garden at The Woolpack Inn in Totford

Sometimes, on Sundays, when the fridge is empty after a long week, when I’m too tired to cook for my boys, we hop in the car and speed off through the beautiful villages of East Stratton and Northington to The Wool Pack Inn in Totford  – a beautifully refurbished gem, serving fantastic food that, wonder of wonders, runs a Sunday afternoon kids’ club from 5pm offering supervised activities and kids’ tea.

The supervised activities give frazzled parents the perfect opportunity to have a quiet drink out in the pretty beer garden, whilst the children happily go about their given task (paper bunting making or cookie decorating, perhaps) and then wolf down the pub’s delicious food. They serve quite possibly the best home made fish fingers I’ve ever tasted, and tea is finished off with locally-made Jude’s ice cream.

Best of all, the pub has an outdoor pizza oven, open on Sunday evenings only, and available for private hire during the week. They turn out fantastic thin and crispy fresh pizzas (grown-ups supper taken care of), and the beer garden gets the best of the evening sun with beautiful views over the rolling fields of the Candover valley. It really is the perfect way to round off a summer weekend.
