A glorious countryside escape at North Farm Cottages near Aylsham

North Farm Cottages, near the pretty town of Aylsham in Norfolk, are a recent find of mine. Tucked away in a beautiful rural setting, it’s truly the perfect place to escape from it all. You’re surrounded by grassy fields and beautiful meadows. Cows stare at you like you’re an alien and herds of wild ponies canter by.

What I like most about North Farm is the attention to detail – and the extra perks that make you feel special. The gorgeous cottages have been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible and are equally group, child or couple friendly. You’ll find a hamper full of local goodies on arrival and even though you’re in a rural setting, there’s still wifi.

The owners Gill and David couldn’t be lovelier. All of the crockery in the cottages is handmade by David who has the most enchanting pottery studio where you can purchase some souvenirs for friends or relatives. A stonemason, printmaker and weaver also have small studios on the farm and will gladly show you their work if you ask.

There is something to keep everyone happily occupied but the walking and cycling in the area are really exceptional. I walked for miles and enjoyed every second. Along my way I discovered a great pub with a lovely beer garden called The Goat. They served me a pint of cider that almost brought me to my knees!

I recommend North Farm for anyone in need of some downtime. Norfolk swept me off my feet and I honestly had the best sleep of my life. Perhaps it was the hooting of the owls mixed with the smugness I felt at finding such a special place.
