Elvis cupcakes, ice cream milkshakes and kitsch collectables at Issy’s Milky Way cafe in Camden Passage

If, like me, you dream of a land where all is brightly–coloured and kitsch, then this may be your own personal paradise. Issy’s Milky Way is a tiny cafe nestled amongst the vintage shops of Camden Passage, selling reasonably priced food and drink whilst doubling as a portal to 1950s America. Treats from across the pond line the walls, jostling for space with homemade goodies and an overwhelming collection of vintage knick-knacks. I found the elaborate Elvis cupcakes particularly delicious. Available in a range of flavours, each has a rice-paper headshot of The King and musically themed edible decorations.

Upon request, the vintage-styled staff will whip up a fresh, creamy milkshake from their selection of ice creams, authentic enough to have you up on the local school bleachers, singing about your summer nights. If you just want distraction, a TV at the back shows joyful fifties movies, or you can listen to the selection of golden oldies whilst contemplating the strange array of pictures and collectables (many of which are available to buy).
