Cupcakes, soda and friendly vibes at Harringay Market in North London

I have been meaning to visit Harringay Market for months and the welcome burst of warm weather this weekend provided the perfect opportunity to hop on my bike and find out what it had to offer.  The market, which has been running for just over a year, is held in the yard of a Victorian primary school and a steady stream of locals were popping in to sample offerings from stalls with street food, local produce and sweet and savoury treats.

I was immediately drawn to Square Root London’s beautiful display of sodas, with flavours including rhubarb, and intriguingly, cucumber, which was proving to be very popular. As I rounded the corner, I spotted the Monkeypoodle Cake Company’s stall, which was a little piece of cake-lover’s heaven. Anou and Poli make gluten and wheat free cakes beautifully displayed on vintage china plates and stands. Resisting the temptation to taste their full range, I finally settled on a piece of pear and almond tart.  Deliciously moist with just the right amount of sweetness, I will definitely be going back to try out more of their selection (the Mr Whippy cupcakes looked divine!).

I rounded off my visit by treating myself to a few pieces of organic veg to try to balance out my earlier indulgences.  The market is held every Sunday so I know where I’ll be heading when I need my next foodie fix!
