Rewarding your tastebuds at Granger & Co. in Westbourne Grove

I became acquainted with Bill Granger’s delicious food during a stint in Sydney so I was curious to see how his Westbourne Grove venture Granger & Co. compared. Pretty well was my speedy conclusion as I spotted the queue at the door. We waited patiently on the pavement and once shown to our table we waited some more for our order to be taken. Don’t get me wrong, the staff are lovely and efficient, they could just do with being multiplied. So if you’re ravenous or in a rush then move on but if you’re happy to go with the flow (as one should come the weekend), then I promise you’re tastebuds will be rewarded. And while you’re waiting, the glamorous locals interspersed with Bill’s native fans makes for great people watching.

It was brunch so I went for the soft boiled eggs which arrived with that bright yellow yolk which says ‘I am a good egg’. The buttery sourdough soldiers were equally as good. The coffee too. On the table next to us I envied the ricotta hotcakes and sweetcorn fritters and promised myself definitely next time. Then, on my way out, I spied the most amazing cakes being bought from the kitchen – victoria sponge piled high with buttercream and blueberries and cupcakes topped with pistachios and pomegranate – and made another mental note: must come back for afternoon tea.
