A fine way to spend a Sunday at Feast community market in West Norwood
Feast is a monthly street market in West Norwood, held on the first Sunday of every month. Run by volunteers and made up of four ‘hubs’, the market is a true celebration of South London’s talent, diversity and entrepreneurial spirit.
I recommend starting at the Retro Village outside Rosebery’s Auction Rooms. Here you can rummage through all manner of delightful curios and kitchenalia or perhaps bag yourself a new vintage outfit. You’ll be taken back in time as my neighbour, aka The Record Man, spins his disks.
When you feel ready for a bite to eat, move on to the green in front of the church, where you’ll find the Food Fair. All tastes and appetites are catered for here, just don’t miss the cakes – they are to die for! Settle down on the grass in the sunshine or sit on the church steps to enjoy locals singing and playing music.
After lunch, head down the High Street to the Artisans Market where you’ll meet artists selling gorgeous crafts including jewellery, pottery, candles and toys. It’s the perfect place to buy a gift or snap up some local art.
Before heading home, be sure to visit Fresh ‘n’ Green. Here you can enjoy a wealth of fresh, seasonal produce including vegetables, bread, olives and juices. Stock up with some new plants for your garden or window boxes and get some advice from the stallholders on how to care for them.
Feast is a fine way to spend a Sunday: stimulate your senses, meet local people and bask in the wonderful sense of community!
