Freshly baked sourdough oozing with butter at E5 Bakehouse in Hackney

A good loaf of bread is one of life’s simple pleasures and as far as loaves go, you can’t get much better than the Hackney Wild sourdough from E5 Bakehouse. Tucked away under the railway arches this place is a real gem; the perfect spot to pick up a freshly baked loaf or settle in for some scrummy baked goods.

They sell a huge range of loaves as well as a mesmerizing range of cakes; on a recent visit I couldn’t get enough of the lemon meringue tarts, the mini ginger cakes and the super chocolatey brownies.

They also serve a simple breakfast every day; delicious crispy toast, homemade granola, bircher muesli, croissants and pastries. Lunchtimes see a couple of scrumptious sandwiches on offer and at weekends they do cooked brunch dishes on Saturdays and homemade pizza on Sundays.

My weekends wouldn’t be quite the same without a loaf from E5. I love walking through London Fields Park before settling in at the Bakehouse for some freshly made toast, oozy butter and homemade jams. The smell of freshly baked bread alone is enough to make my day.
