Camping under the Uffington White Horse at Britchcombe Farm

Britchcombe Farm is a lovely campsite nestled right under the famous Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire. Spread over many of the farm’s sloping fields, the campsite offers teepees for hire and there’s also a tea shop open every weekend for cream teas.

We camped with friends in the enchantingly named Plum Tree field which we had almost to ourselves. The facilities are simple, with a few portaloos in each field and a shower in the main farmyard a short walk away, but the setting is beautiful and real fires are positively encouraged. Each evening a landrover comes around to sell bags of logs for the fire. It’s the perfect campsite for stargazing and sitting around the fire toasting marshmallows.

We recommend walking to the nearest village of Woolstone for a drink in the rather charming old world White Horse pub. And of course, the main attraction is just a short walk away – the ancient Ridgeway and magical White Horse which is believed to date back to 1000 BC!
