Alfresco cream teas at Braithwaites mobile tea room in Camden Lock Market

My new favourite thing is cute, quaint, quintessentially British and absolutely delicious! You can find it in West Yard at Camden Lock Market. Just look out for a tiny three-wheeled van covered in a pretty willow pattern and there you have Braithwaites – The English Cream Tea Co. –  serving up the most fantastic English cream tea from their lovely ‘mobile tea room’.

Their delicious cream tea is as good as they get with lovely strawberry jam and a warm homemade scone topped with Rodda’s clotted cream, all served in gorgeous packaging. There’s also a very cute story (depicted on boards above the tea urn) behind Braithwaites which the lovely owner Paul told me while preparing my tea. His great grandfather, Thomas Braithwaite, and his wife Laura fell in love with Cornish cream tea whilst on holiday and took the concept back to Durham to serve with their local brew, Ringtons Tea. Their cream teas soon became the talk of the town and now Paul carries on this very wonderful family tradition.

This is street food at its best but with all the hallmarks of a traditional English tea room.
